about

Make no mistake about it – Wiki Chaves specializes in transportation. On his latest album, Solsticio, the global troubadour transports listeners on a journey through layered guitars, moody keyboards, and propulsive backbeats that fuel the rocket ride throughout.

After spending the better part of a decade in Northern California via his native Argentina, Wiki quit his job and set off for the coasts and islands of Asia. He spent the next year ricocheting across the region, recording songs and capturing field recordings. Next, he headed home to Buenos Aires’ Tripart Studio, transforming his demos into something decidedly cinematic. The result was a suite of 10 postcards to the places he’d passed through – an instrumental, guitar-driven reflection on a particularly reflective year.

Wiki’s sound is tough to pin down – in the best way. Sure, there are dub reggae overtones aplenty, and an undeniable 90’s rock feeling, but much like its creator, Solsticio wanders between the superimposed borders of genre. One minute you’re beachside sipping tea in Sri Lanka. The next you’re riding a scooter through a bustling Balinese market, shoeless and sandy.

And even though each song is tied to a specific place, in the case of Solsticio, the listener becomes the pilot on this soundtrack in search of a movie.

about

Wiki Chaves Santa Cruz, California

Wiki Chaves captures his world through instrumental pieces influenced by electronic, ambient and organic music, mainly using guitars and beats.

His songs are inspired by his travels and experiences around the globe. Furthermore, they trace a sort of personal map that refers not only to places, but also to feelings anchored in moments, the open road, national parks and wild beaches.
